The 3rd Sunday in June
Father's Day, contrary to popular belief, was not a marketing invention of Hallmark ...Mrs. John B. Dodd first proposed the idea of a "father's day" in 1909. The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in her home town of Spokane, Washington. The notion spread. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge publicly supported a national Father's Day. However, it wasn't until 1966 that President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.
