The things to talk about...

During the precursors to making decisions... The things to talk about are the things that need doing, that we see need to be done, and that we're in the process of doing...

Then we'll conceive a way of doing that which needs to be done, that no one else appears to be focusing on as productively as we are.

I can't possibly overstate the importance of good research in Fundraising. Everyone goes through life dropping crumbs. If you can recognize the crumbs, you can trace a path all the way back from your death certificate to the dinner and a movie that resulted in you in the first place.

Fundraising research is an art, not a science. Understanding what it takes to inspire somebody to make a sacrifical gif is the craft of a Master, because anyone who knows what they're doing can identify the crumbs, the wheres, whats, and whos.

The art is in the whys: the ability to read between the crumbs, not to mix metaphors. For every donation, there is a cause and effect. For every foundation, a motive. And for every motive, a passion. The art of fundraiser research is the ability to look at the details, and see the passion.

I love you Liz Boswell,
